What must it feel like to realize that you single-handedly brought the entire world to its knees? Certainly, Barack Obama could have avoided the present economic chaos by not spending so much money and by not increasing the length and girth of the federal government so egregiously. If your name is Barack Obama, your works extend far beyond economic chaos, however. Indirectly, the riots against England’s institutions have been caused in large measure by the inability of British socialism to fund British society’s insatiable appetite for additional entitlements and handouts; these riots, just as socialist-based trouble any place in the world, play into the hand of Barack Obama. Pundits are asking if and when such riots, fueled by excessive government handouts, might take place in the United States. Obama, through his cute but obstructionist mentality, led the United States directly to a decrease in Standard & Poor’s credit rating for the country … a feat never even contemplated as a goal or measure of success by any previous President: in this case, America’s Colossus of Failed Policies did have a choice.
Could a single person literally destroy the economic, financial and social stability of the entire world? Oddly, the answer is “yes” for much of the world …. if you’re the President of the United States; curiously, only the Muslim world seems to be emerging relatively unscathed from the present economic catastrophe (though many Muslim countries are, indeed, having their share of political unrest at this time, but that’s a whole different story).
The full unemployment rate in the US of close to 19%, the first-ever downgrading of the US credit rating, and the steep decline of the US and world stock markets are putting trade and foreign investment on hold around the world. Worldwide unemployment will necessarily increase as a result. Uncertainty is the watchword. Our Obama. What a guy!
Millions of Americans are cheering our rudderless but charming president on, and intend to re-elect him in 2012. They have threatened to “kill” republican opposition to their champion, and have singled out the likely suspects. They have a billion dollar campaign budget to carry out their objectives… enough to make even a Russian oligarch drool. They will do whatever is necessary to cut the US down to size … and they won’t quit until that size is “petite”.
Since millions of Americans pay scant attention to what’s really happening in the world, or in the US, they will follow their leader with unquestioning allegiance to his socialist policies and to the destruction of the private sector, free markets and capitalism in the US, and by association, throughout much of the entire world.
Friedrich August Hayek foresaw the collapse of Britain through its disastrous race toward socialism following WWII. After Sir Winston Churchill led his nation and the allies to unconditional victory against Nazi Germany in May of 1945, his nation showed its appreciation by voting him out of office two months later to start the liberals on their long upward power grab and downward economic and social spiral for the next 60 years, interrupted briefly (albeit significantly) by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Hayek warned against big government and its inevitable trek toward serfdom for a nation’s people.
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin argued that since he couldn’t command every individual citizen in the USSR, he would have to settle for just controlling the commanding heights of the Soviet economy … in the 1920s, those commanding heights were raw materials, heavy industry, exports, and agriculture, for example. Today, Obama has translated Lenin’s theory into modern times by forcibly and enthusiastically taking over the commanding heights of the present-day US economy: the automotive industry, banking and finance, trade unions, the health industry, and housing, just for starters.
Where will this insanity end? My guess is it will not end. The US electorate on balance does not see, and cannot see, that Obama is willfully destroying our nation. The New York Times tells us every day that, despite some uncomfortable facts such as increasing national debt, increasing unemployment, and decreasing wealth for most citizens, we’re still on the right track. Obama will be re-elected because he sounds good, even when times are horrid for millions of Americans. … Not one American in twenty can explain Obama’s policies, but they do like the way he looks.
As someone once said, you can ignore your government, but your government will not ignore you. As the costs of health insurance soar, instead of improving the nation’s health through proven wellness programs that could cut health care costs in half, which would be the sensible thing to do, we insist on addressing and solving the wrong problem … always with more government spending and greater government involvement in the lives of ordinary Americans. We will be forced to die at a time and cause of the government’s choosing, and the majority of us will die sooner and poorer as a result of President Obama’s policies. We can no longer even build airplanes wherever we wish. Illegal immigrants will continue to flood the country, becoming grateful supporters of US government largesse; they will also become eligible voters to continue to support more of the same. Labor unions will increase in strength and push more and more US jobs overseas….until there is no one left to join the labor unions. US military spending will be cut in all of the wrong places, encouraging our foes around the world.
It is likely too late to stop the impending disaster to the United States and to the world. Those who truly care and understand wish they could recast a ballot or two. But increasingly, those who care find themselves in the minority. No one can foresee what will happen to the US and to the developed world. People are seriously asking where in the world they can go today to live in economic and civil calm.
Even though he couldn’t cause the collapse of the world all on his own, had Obama never been elected president, the US and world economies would be in better shape today with an absolute certainty; nonetheless, like so many sheep, we continue down our desultory path to serfdom and it’s first cousin, tyranny. Mr. Obama, we, the citizens of the world, beg you. Please. Go take a hike.
